I was in the middle of working on building a Square website in Chrome (browser) when my browser froze. Now my Finder window is frozen too and all I can do is lock and unlock my computer. I have a MacBook Air. I can’t even get it to force quit. I’m trying to let it just run the battery down now and see what happens.

Press and hold the power button until the computer shuts down - 5-10 seconds.
Then restart normally.

Not obvious at all.
It's rather unusual for a Mac not to shut down if you hold the power button long enough.
You can allow the battery to run down, but eventually the Mac may hibernate and the process may or may not allow you to reboot it. Keeping 🤞🏽 that it will.
