Apple Pencil does not draw or function while charging

Is it normal for the Apple Pencil to not draw or function while charging? I charge mine via USB-C, so when plugged in and charging, it doesn't draw on the iPad.

Yes, that is normal for the USB-C Apple Pencil.

If you’re using the USB-C Apple Pencil (released in 2023), it does not function while physically plugged into USB-C for charging. Apple designed it so the drawing input is disabled when the cable is connected. This is mainly because:

  • The USB-C port is used strictly for charging and pairing.
  • The pencil switches to a wired charging state instead of active input mode.
  • It prevents accidental strain or damage to the connector while drawing.
