Headway app: unauthorized charges, not in subscriptions

Headway app tried to charge my credit card 5 times in a row. I never subscribed, I paid for a $7.00 trial and they are not in my apple subscriptions. How do I get them banned from the app store. They have been doing this since at least 2003 according to other users.

Your purchase was not made with an in-app purchase that is managed by Apple and you are being billed directly through Headway with the credit card information you provided them. That is why it is not showing up as an Apple Account purchase. Unfortunately Apple has to allow a developer to manage their own subscriptions and Headway does offer a Website subscription that includes a Free Trial, where they will bill you directly.


Previously Apple prevented Developers from doing that and was sued and lost, which required them to pay huge fines. Apple followed up by attempting to warn users that their purchase was not being managed by Apple and they were sued again and lost claiming that was an anti-competitive practice and were forced to remove the message. Apple would like to prevent that from happening, but are not allowed to stop it or remove an app that chooses to manage their own subscriptions. Those rules also apply to the Google Play Store.


So now, the leaves you with disputing the charge with Capitol One, and they will also have to block future transactions. If they don't take that extra step to block future transactions and just issue you a new card, you are likely to find that the subscription is moved to the new card, because Capitol One uses an Automatic Billing Updater to prevent disruptions in subscriptions.


The details about the Headway website subscription is seen here in their Privacy Policy, so don't let them tell you that Apple is the only one that manages their subscriptions.

Remember that nobody on this forum works for Apple. If you want to contact Apple about this, refer to this page for Apple Support features ➔ https://support.apple.com/contact

Select from the presented options until you find a solution for your issue, or see if there is a chat or phone call contact method offered lower on the page under “Get more help” (you sometimes have to narrow down the options multiple times before this is shown). If you do not see your issue, keep experimenting with any series of selections until you reach one that offers a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.


This support article has various country telephone numbers for contacting Apple for support and service ➔ https://support.apple.com/106932 Scroll down to “Connect with live support”. If your country is not in the list, go to the “Other countries” entry at the end of the list and click on the “options” link. Not every country has telephone support, and phone numbers may only work when calling from the same country.

Unfortunately that system only works if they are successful in unfairly charging. Their is no option for unsuccessful unethical or illegal activities. The system assumes that I was charge via a subscription in the apple app store and in this case since the app download was free, the Apple system will not let me proceed with my complaint.
