@Thomas Smith3, since FCP 12 is not wildly different from 11, you could watch the free FCP 11 videos linked by others here then watch the free Ripple Training deep dive on the new FCP 12 features. https://youtu.be/soIqczyU02w
And/or support Steve and Mark at Ripple with their always excellent training.

The Ripple Training tutorials are probably the best but they cost big bucks and they may be more intensive than you require.
Steve Martin (of Ripple Training - not the actor!) made a free 60 minute tutorial 4 years ago which is well regarded.
Below you will find a selection of free short but comprehensive tutorials
If you follow these three, you will master FCP. FCP 12 is new, so they have not made many video specifically for 12, but the upgrade of 12 is not significant enough that anything you learn will not apply to 12. JKL editing, color correcting, audio correction and balance. Short cuts, they cover it all.

Ripple updated their content for FCPX 12. It is more expensive, but they offer many vouchers and discounts. Their courses are excellent, i did do a lot of their courses. With a discount the courses are very good value for the money. I found their courses to be a good investment.
I started to watch this video (FCP in 60 minutes) just to see how they presented their instruction. When he suggested saving the media within the library and deleting the original folder of video clips, I was done.
I would NEVER, EVER recommend doing it that way. It's a recipe for disaster, especially in a large library with hundreds of clips. Plus, if you delete the folder where the clips were stored, you have just deleted your original media!
Say what?
Search for Final Cut Bro on YT, you'll pick up a great deal from there. Plus, read the user manual, really is helpful.
I understand your point of view, as I also never do that- I always keep my media in place. But it must be noted that they are talking to an audience that is of the iPhone generation. Alas, understanding a hierarchical file system is something that too many a user nowadays is incapable of.
I have some very large libraries, and all the media is stored internally, not issues. Those files are not any safer being external. Corruption can happen anywhere on a computer. That's why we do backups, in case of disaster.
Just realised that you specified FCP 12.
Earlier versions are basically the same but I would limit the choice of free tutorials to those made less than 5 years ago.
You don't have to do that!
Just follow the parts that show you how to operate the app.
Thanks for all your suggestions. Very appreciative. T
