iPad bookmark menu not auto-collapsing in iOS 26

Since updating to IOS 26 on the iPad, every time I open a website via bookmark, I then have to click on the bookmark menu to collapse it instead of it automatically hiding upon selecting a website. I don’t believe there is any fix for this, but can someone please confirm?

Presumably you are accessing your bookmarked websites (favourites) from the Safari sidebar? If so, the sidebar does not automatically close. The sidebar is exposed and hidden using the sidebar button:






This behaviour is seemingly by design. There are no configuration options that alter this behaviour.


Apple invite submission of feature requests via its Product Feedback portal. If you would like to see additional controls in a future release of iPadOS, this would be the most appropriate channel through which to submit a request to Apple:
