Steam Controller won't work in game or on desktop.

I cannot get my Steam Controller (specifically the "Steam Controller") to work with steam outside of big picture mode. Desktop configurations and In game configurations will not work. I have set the accessibility permissions and input monitoring permission, but no change. MacOS sees the controller as a mouse when connected. And Steam does see it. I can tell the configurations are applied because the haptics change to align with what the game would use, but the mouse and buttons are ignored. I've tried wired, Bluetooth mode, and with the steam dongle. No difference. I feel like there is some permission blocking the use some how. If I exit steam, the controller will work in a default mode that steam called lizard mode (yes that is the real name).

Have no idea ... you can look at >System Settings>Privacy & Security if you need to add permission to access or some such(?)

see if there is anything here— Steam Controller Setup

verify your software is up to date—

The current stable release of Tahoe including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 26.3
