Why is it important to have an apple id password, and a Mac login since they seem interchangeable? Seems easier to just change the Mac login to the same as the apple id since either can get us to the same place. Looking for logic beyond my thinking.

[in my opinion] they are NOT interchangeable.
Use of your Apple-ID requires an internet connection for validation. Its password is stored in your Apple Account on the cloud, ONLY.
On a device that is inherently connected, such as an iPhone, using Apple-ID is not a conflict, and you get access to the device itself with your locally-validated passcode, Touch-ID , or Face-ID.
On a stand-alone computing device like a MacBook Pro, such a device can be used extensively without a daily internet connection, because it has a locally-validated encrypted login credential. Requiring an internet connection to do ANYTHING on a Mac is not appropriate.
A login for a device authorizes the access to the device.
A login to an Apple Account provides access to your authorized purchases and other related data.

I should be able to log in and write letters using a word processor, or create a new spreadsheet of numbers already on my computer, or write a software program, or create presentation that does not rely on internet data, or edit videos already captured, or fix up my photos, or any number of other things people often do with their computers.
I should be ale to do this completely off the grid, on the beach or in a cabin in the woods. Requiring an internet connection just to open my Mac is unreasonable.
If you forget your password on one account, you have access from the other account to recover it.
If a criminal had somehow stolen your password, your entire life would be ruined from identity theft to everything.
Let’s be grateful that Apple provides safeguards in place for your privacy and security concerns.

I need to *amend my original post question; the reason for my post question stemmed from being able to use my *MacBook Password/Keychain login to also login to sites that normally required my apple id. It seemed wrong to be able to do that, but I read on a post or chat that the reason is that they were interchangeable as a convenience and could use either or to login.
Hopefully that may explain my query better; why not just have the same Passwords login as the apple id login since both get to the same place?
