iPhone 14 Pro voicemail nearly full despite few messages

How can I empty my "nearly full" voicemail when I only have 4 messages remaining on my phone? Are there messages in the cloud that could affect this? I have tried everything from updating the phone (14 pro) to reading online blogs on the topic, but no suggestions have made the mailbox any emptier. This is seriously perplexing!

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 26

Do you have a deleted folder? If so, make sure to empty it. Unlike most other deleted folders, it never empties itself. I find it easiest to do this from the Classic view. In the Recents tap in Phone, tap on the three horizontal lines in the upper right and select "Classic."

If that isn't the solution, you may need to dial into your voicemail directly. For US carriers, is usually *86. You'll then need to enter your VM passcode. You can then try deleting messages from there. Consult your carrier's website for information on how to access voicemail.

Yes. I emptied that too. I did all the things recommended online so far. That’s why I’m so frustrated. My provider isn’t any help either. They sent me to Apple.

Try calling your provider back. Tell them to turn off voicemail on your account. Thank them and hang up. Wait a bit. Call back. Ask them to put voicemail back on your account.

Note: this will most likely delete any saved voice mails.
