Can't access websites in Safari and Chrome on Mac

I haven't been able to access certain websites today via Google Chrome or Safari. It never loads and I eventually get an error saying the website can't be reached. This are websites I visit often and have never had issues before. Here is what I have tried to remedy it without success:

-cleared browsing history and cache

-force closed chrome and reopened

-restarted my laptop

-ensured I have most updated versions on Mac, Chrome, and Safari

-tested in incognito mode with the same result

-uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome

I've been able to get to Apple's support page just fine.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it!

I went to privacy and security in my settings-->Background Security Improvements and turned off Automatically Install and tested it and was able to access all the websites without issue. Could it be something with the latest update to my Mac? The version I have is macOS Tahoe 26.3. If so, how do I fix this without having to risk the security of my laptop?
