iPhone location signal duration in snow, no charge?

How long does iPhone send location signal with no charge if left in snow? I have lost my phone either inside my home or in my parking lot. I cannot find it inside my home after thoroughly searching. But find my device is showing either in my home or close to my staircase which is right beside my parking. Now if it really fell in snow, how long can it send the location signal? I was able to receive signal for 24 hours after the charge was over. Can it send for this long if it’s in snow in -15 temperature?

Cold decreases the capacity of the battery. There is no exact formula for predicting the length of time it will maintain signal. From my use of lithium ion batteries in cold climates like Montana and Yellowstone National Park I would estimate no more than 6 to 8 hours, maybe more, maybe less depending on temperature fluctuations, exposure to sunlight (warmth) etc.

If an iPhone is completely out of charge and not connected to a network, it won't be trackable. Under better weather conditions, if a phone which isn't charged comes near another iPhone it can momentarily leave a signal, but if your iPhone is buried under snow in extreme cold, not powered on nor connected to a network, it won't likely come close enough to another iPhone or even be able to communicate with one.

If your phone is indeed in snow, this is not likely going to have a good outcome for you. Once the snow starts to melt, the phone will take on water and water destroys phones. Apple won't attempt a repair on an iPhone damaged by liquids.

i understand. I am asking this to rule out the chance that it’s in snow. Because I have been able to locate it in Find my device for 24hours. When I lost it, it had 5% charge, so the battery died soon after losing. From that time, it sent signals for 24 hours. So,if it really fell in snow, it won’t be able to do that, right? The probable location is just 2 meters from my staircase which is my parking spot. Its just 5-6 meters away from my home. So,I just want to be mentally prepared that it’s not in snow, it’s in my home, I just need to scan the home for 20 more times.
