Microfiber cloth in MacBook: affect closure?

Thoughts about leaving a microfiber cloth sandwiched between my MacBook??

I use it to prevent oil/keyboard imprints from the screen; however, I am scared if it will mess up with the closure.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thank youu!

Never place anything between the keyboard and the display.

Since you have clearly discounted the info from Apple and obviously have the budget for a repair, have at.

Per Apple: ”Leaving any material on your display, keyboard, or palm rest might interfere with the display when it's closed and cause damage to your display.” Emphasis added.

You’re depending on that “might” always working in favor of your display.

So, how can I prevent my keyboard from leaving a mark on my screen?

Do not put pressure on the laptop clamshell & base. Any pressure you apply while carrying the laptop while the lid is closed will push the display closer to the keys where it will mark the display. Even if you put the laptop into a laptop bag to transport the laptop, make sure that the laptop is not being pressed together by the bag, or any items in that bag.

Also, I do not have the budget for a repair. What might have suggested you to think that??

Because you are willing to place something between the closed display & keyboard especially after multiple contributors have all advised against it (you made a later post trying to defend the bad habit).

Of course you may do with your computer as you wish since it is your device.

I've been using Macs professionally for a couple of decades and my work required global travel. I have never had any issue with oil/marks on the display caused by the keyboard. If you are experiencing "oil" marks on the display, try washing your hands before using the computer. Again, do not place anything between the display and the keyboard.

Yes. Many.

I've been doing it for about a year now. I traveled with it around the globe. So far, there has not been any issues.

None of them had any issues either... until they did.

I have been traveling around the globe with various portable Macs for nearly two and a half decades. I have never used a screen protector, keyboard protector, or any external hard or soft cases or "skins" for that matter. No problems.

It's your Mac though, so do as you please.

The MacBook Pro is a lightweight, portable computer that can run on batteries. Being portable, it can easily be subjected to multi-G forces daily, just by being moved about in a completely ordinary way. This is extremely stressful to electro-mechanical equipment. The display is made of glass, the internals are very likely to die if water is spilled on the keyboard.

Because of this, you should ALWAYS purchase the extended warranty coverage for such a portable device, regardless of whether you intend to move it about.
