Non-Apple receipt for Mac Activation Lock proof?

I just got off the phone with Apple Support for my Mac that I don't remember the Apple ID or password for (its been a long time since it was used). They told that you have to provide an Apple receipt for proof of purchase to turn off the Activation Lock.

What if we didn't buy it from the Apple Store, but from a website called My Wallet? My brother had enough school points for us to buy it from there. Will a confirmation email or receipt from them be sufficient for Apple Support to turn off the Activation Lock?

Apple does not say definitively what they will accept as proof of purchase but empirical evidence from statements made through many years on this forum strongly suggest they will only accept a receipt from Apple or an Apple Authorized seller. Apple is not involved in third party sales and does not have ways of authenticating them.
