iPhone recovery contact requires iMessage
Adding recovery contact. My wife has an iphone and when I try to add her as a recovery contact it tells me she can’t be added because she is not using i message

Did you verify that she is signed into iMessage?
If her iPhone is also using iOS 26 as yours is, that would mean checking Settings > Messages > iMessage is enabled. (She also has to be signed into her Apple Account, of course.)
