Apple has never confirmed that a 17e.....or whatever it might be called.....will exist.

So, anything that you may have "heard" at this point is either rumor or speculation.

Apple just answered your question, for the whole world to see.

If you go to the main Apple site, there are now announcements for the iPhone 17e and the M4 iPad Air. The site says that both can be pre-ordered starting at 6:15 a.m. P.T. (Pacific Time) on 3.4 (March 4), and that they will be available starting 3.11 (March 11).

I was quite surprised to see these announcements. There is an Apple event scheduled for next Monday, March 9th, so I assumed that Apple would have held off any new product announcements until then, to get maximum attention for them. If they are announcing these two products now, it is likely that they have others planned for March 9, and want to focus even more attention on those – whatever they might turn out to be.

We had to say that! However it now looks exactly like the 16e but with A19 chip and 256GB for the price of the 128GB 16e, good value.

It looks exactly like the 16e in these respects:

  • No Ultra-Wide (0.5x) camera
  • No support for USB-C video adapters that rely on DisplayPort Alt Mode
  • No Ultra-Wideband chip for Precision Finding of AirTags

On the other hand, the 17e does support MagSafe, Qi2, and Qi wireless charging. The 16e supported Qi charging, but not the convenient MagSafe alignment feature that all other 12-series and later iPhones (with the exception of the 3rd generation SE) did.
