I know, I know, not another battery thread.

16 Pro, have made all the known battery saving settings, and typical use for me is surfing and listening to a podcast for three hours and my battery is then below 50%.

I think that’s terrible, personally.

Can I assume others have similar issues?

Not sure why the focus is on Podcasts. According the battery monitor Podcasts is only using a small amount compared to Chrome and mostly in the background. Chrome use is foreground so the screen being on will have significant impact on battery use. My suggestion would be to try using Safari for a while instead of Chrome and see if that makes a difference. If it were me I'd uninstall Chrome completely for this test since if Chrome is causing a problem it's more likely due to the telemetry and other tracking stuff that Chrome is no doubt sending back and forth during browsing and there's no gurarantee that it's not doing that all the time. You could also try dimming the screen a bit if you're not using auto-dimming.

"A normal battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles when operating under normal conditions."

While this is correct, not sure why you did not include the additional information about batteries in the iPhone 15 and higher. The OP told that they have an iPhone 16 Pro.

The complete information reads as follows in the Apple Support document that you referenced:

Batteries of iPhone 14 models and earlier are designed to retain 80 percent of their original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions. Batteries of iPhone 15 models are designed to retain 80 percent of their original capacity at 1000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions.

Also note that the document now reads......."under ideal conditions"......not under "normal" conditions.

Either way....."ideal conditions" or "normal" conditions are not really defined.

You can turn access to cellular off when using a podcast apparently but I still have the same battery performance when I’m home all day using my Wi-Fi as if I’m out all day using cellular. There is no difference that I can tell.

OK now I’m confused, there’s a button in Apple podcast which is what I use to say yes to to turn on access to cellular data for podcast, when I turn that off and I turn off the Wi-Fi the podcast still plays using the cellular, so what does that permission allow when I click it on that podcast can access cellular data is what I don’t understand.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I don’t know what support it’s gonna tell me other than it goes through the checklist of battery saving settings which I have done completely. I appreciate you looking at it for me.

A quick question over it ChatGPT says that the cellular data access button and downloading automatic on Apple podcasts etc. might have something to do with it so I’m playing with that right now.

What is the podcast issue? It wouldn’t use cellular data for the podcast and the home Wi-Fi that I’m connected to for everything else, right? I either have it connected to Wi-Fi or I don’t, which I always do at home.

Don’t think I’m using any widgets but what would I do if I was exactly?

I just got an email from Apple saying they removed my original post because it was off-topic, but it’s still there so that’s confusing.

Also no VPN.

”allow podcasts to access cellular data“ is checked on but that only applies when I’m not on Wi-Fi right?

Is there a podcast settings where you can exclusively select use WiFi only? What app are you using for your podcasts?

Good point. It's a new thing in that article and in order to keep things shorter I am going to omit mention of charge cycles and models altogether. If an OP wants to know that stuff they can read the article paragraph to which I referred them.

Nor do I mention a 2 year warranty for Turkish owners. Have to draw the line at some point or just copy and paste the entire support article and paste it here.
