What does 'APPLECOMBILL INTERNET CHARGE' mean on my bill?

This is a simple question about billing. When I am charged for APPLECOMBILL INTERNET CHARGE, what does that mean? The amount is $13.77 or sometimes $1.05 or $6.35, usually small amounts. Recently there was a charge over $75. There’s never a meaningful explanation.

Apple is not an ISP, thus does not charge anyone for internet access. It's extremely unlikely you will find these charges listed in your Apple account.

Most likely (nearly 100% certain), your credit card has been compromised and charges are being made by crooks in repeating smaller amounts in the hopes you won't pay attention.

The solution is to have your current credit card cancelled immediately, and a new one issued. Dispute the charges and try to get them reversed.

That "INTERNET CHARGE" is a big red flag.

If the credit card line says "APPLECOMBILL" – with no punctuation – that's another potential red flag. I've never seen Apple put a charge on my card with that prefix. They always use the prefix "APPLE.COM/BILL".

There's also the possibility that if the criminals get away with a few small charges, they will decide that they have a victim who isn't paying attention – and will then proceed to make fraudulent charges for much larger amounts.

That is the most common routine. Start small and then work your way to big charges.

There's a long running scam where the crooks charge the same amount every month to who knows how many credit cards. They never raise, lower it, or place other charges under the same charge line. Most users then believe it's a legitimate charge and ignore it.

And it's been going on for years.

Edit: I see none of those links in that topic work anymore, but you get the idea.
