How do I prevent unauthorized texting in parental controls on iPhone?

I set up my phone for my Child and we recently found out that when somebody is saved in their contacts, it does not send me a text message to ask permission.

So with that being said, it’s getting around the parental controls. Is there a way to stop this from happening in the future?

Because if I can’t find a solution for it, that means my daughter can save anybody in her contacts and text whoever she wants without my permission. All she needs is their phone number and to save it in as a contact and then she can message you whoever she wants.

There’s gotta be a way to stop this from happening in the future to keep my child safe either that or I’m going to have to get rid of all Apple products in our home

Your child can only text approved contacts if these controls are set correctly:

  • Open Settings ➡️ Screen Time ➡️ [Child’s Name] ➡️ Communication Limits and set During Screen Time to Contacts Only.
  • Tap Specific Contacts and choose Only Allowed Contacts so your child cannot text anyone outside your approved list.
  • Open Settings ➡️ Screen Time ➡️ [Child’s Name] ➡️ Communication Limits ➡️ During Downtime and set this to Specific Contacts as well.
  • Open Settings ➡️ Screen Time ➡️ [Child’s Name] ➡️ Always Allowed and remove Contacts from the allowed apps list so they cannot add new contacts freely.
  • Open Settings ➡️ Screen Time ➡️ [Child’s Name] ➡️ Content & Privacy Restrictions ➡️ Contacts and set this to Don’t Allow Changes so new contacts cannot be added without your passcode.
  • Make sure your child does not know the Screen Time passcode; if they do, they can bypass every restriction.
  • Restart the iPhone after changing these settings so the Communication Limits refresh correctly.

Confiscate the device during off hours, using mid-grade Wi-Fi gear lock lock down the Wi-Fi connectivity generally and take the child’s SSID offline on a predetermined schedule, and lock down the cellular numbers accessible via the carrier.

But… If your child is so inclined, these steps and other parental controls will fail.

All of these controls can be bypassed and on an allowance scale budget. And you won’t know.
