Unexpected Walmart app icon appearing in iPhone status bar

I've noticed an icon in my status bar with the Walmart logo. I have the Walmart app for ordering items, but I don't recall giving it permission to do this, and I don't want it to. When I read about the status bar and these icons, it says there are not supposed to be an apps or brand names in the status bar, just things like battery and system notifications, etc.

The icon doesn't provide me with any information or do anything else when I click on it.

Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening? I've uninstalled the app for now.

Thank you.

A Walmart logo in the iPhone status bar (Top Edge of the iPhone) is probably caused by a stuck Live Activity from your Walmart app. Sometimes these notifications run even when the app is closed. Third‑party apps cannot place icons in the status bar on purpose.

Try the following next time it happens:

  • Open Settings ➡️ Apps ➡️ Walmart ➡️ Live Activities ➡️ Set this to OFF.
  • Open Settings ➡️ General ➡️ Background App Refresh ➡️ Walmart ➡️ Set this to OFF.
  • Open Settings ➡️ Apps ➡️ Walmart ➡️ Location ➡️ Set this to Never.
  • Restart the iPhone to clear the stuck activity.

You can then set the background app refresh to ON and Location to while using

Uninstalling the app removes the status bar icon because it deletes the Live Activity.
