Unable to change Shokz headphone volume with phone

I bought a new set of Shokz headphones yesterday. I can no longer change the volume with my phone, I can only change it on the headphones. Since the buttons on the headphone are so small, it is much easier to do it on my phone. Has something changed with Apple's compatibility?
