MacBook Pro: External disk icons show Adobe CC in sidebar

why do the icons for all my external disks display as adobe creative cloud?

Since updating to a new M4 Max MacBook Pro running the latest version of Tahoe ( 26.3 ), all of the custom icons for my external disks show up in the menu as the rainbow colored adobe creative cloud logo. Doing a get info, the icon is correct, it shows correctly on the desktop, just strange behavior in the sidebar menu. Not a major issue, but annoying. Is this something in my settings or just a bug of Tahoe?

It did not have this issue using the same drives running an M2 MacBook Pro running Sequoia.

This is likely caused by Adobe CC registering as a file provider.

You can disable the related functionality by following these steps.

  1. Go to System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions.
  2. Scroll Down to Extensions, and choose the "By Category" view.
  3. Click on the "i" to the right of the "File Providers".
  4. Toggle off Core Sync and Creative Cloud.

There's some additional context and, possibly, an alternate solution in this Reddit thread.

reboot does not work.

The current stable release of Tahoe including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 26.3.1 - I would start there
