1. First: Check if they’re really gone or just hidden

Check the “Recently Deleted” folder

  1. Open Photos
  2. Go to Albums
  3. Scroll down to Recently Deleted
  4. If you see photos there → select them → tap Recover

This restores everything instantly.

2. Check if iCloud Photos got turned off

Sometimes an update or a sign‑out makes iCloud stop syncing.

Check iCloud Photos

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap your name (Apple ID)
  3. Tap iCloudPhotos
  4. Make sure Sync this iPhone is ON

If it turns back on, photos may start reappearing after a few minutes.

3. Were you signed out of iCloud?

If someone logged out of your Apple ID, the photos disappear locally but still exist in iCloud.

Check:

Settings → Your Name

If it asks you to Sign In, your photos are still safe in iCloud — just sign in again.

4. Check if “Optimize iPhone Storage” was enabled

Sometimes photos appear empty while your iPhone tries to re-download from iCloud.

Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Photos

  • If Optimize Storage is ON
  • Connect to Wi-Fi and plug into power
  • Photos may start downloading again.

5. Check if you switched to a different Apple ID

This is very common without realizing:

Settings → Your Name

Look at the email. Is it your usual Apple ID?

If not, sign into the correct one.

6. Check in iCloud.com

Use a browser and log in at:

If your photos appear there → they can be restored to the phone.
