MacBook Pro (M1) sudden shutdowns and battery issues

I have the exact issue. And only started after the Tahoe update.

Random power off for no reason at all plugged in or running off battery.

After one out outage. Won't reboot unless i plug it into 100w power supply. 140w just gives a blinking orange light. And once it's rebooted. No battery detected for about half a day then it came back.

Been to a Genius bar and did diagnostics (all tests good). Had a complete Device Firmware Update (DFU) as well to an earlier version of Taheo. Problem persisted though less frequent.

Right now My battery reads 3.7V but battery icon on macOS is saying 25%

at 4.1v it says it's 78%.

Too many with earlier versions of m1 m2 mac area reporting the same issue for this to be an individual hardware fault.

I just had a reset prior to posting this and the computer temps were at 42 degrees.

My suspicions is the battery management (Energy mode) they introduced. Having it set to automatic, possibly idling in low Power state and you suddenly need more power and it's not fast enough to switch. It just hard reset you.

I'm setting everything to high power to see what happens.

if you take it to an Apple service provider first, they CAN run their diagnostics, which are a bit more comprehensive than the User diagnostics. In the very small amount of time they are run, “No faults detected” still does not mean “All is Well” but at least there are no detected GROSS problems. Unless they can find a fault, they will return your computer unchanged. Genius Bar technicians are NOT trained to read panic reports and computer logs.

When you present your computer at the Genius Bar with the expectation of a quote to repair it, you must generally meet these criteria:

• your Mac won't do anything

• your Mac fails diagnostics

• your Mac has a problem you can repeatably demonstrate on demand

one other oddball case:

• Apple online support has DIRECTED a Service Provider to replace specific components inside your Mac, such as the mainboard or display. Bring proof, such as case number.

Is this the original battery or a replacement battery. If a replacement, who replaced it.

This paragraph:

suggests to me an overheating problem rather than a battery problem.
