USB mic on Mac mini M4 registers input but no dictation

I recently purchased Mac mini M4, I needed to find and install an external microphone for various purposes. So I purchased one that was a had a USB A plug so I got a USB a to USB-C adapter. When I plugged it in and attempted to use it, I found in the sound input section of.Settings, that I could see when I spoken to the Mike that the volume was being registered on the bar that goes across that it was registering my voice, but I couldn’t find a way to have what I was saying appear in either a Apple mail email. I was trying to write or in trying to dictate something into a pages document. So I got a second one and have the same problem.

I am not quite sure what to do about it and welcome any assistance, information and recommendations thank you and have a good one

Mac mini, macOS 26.3
