Unable to clear cell border formatting in Numbers for iPad

I am having a frustrating time clearing cell border formatting in Numbers for iPad.

I have tried selecting the cells I want to clear cell borders of a region of cells.

I have tried to select "No border" button of the Border Style dialog. And for Line Type, I select None. But nothing changes.

Do selections in the 3x3 Cell Border grid have something to do with clearing the border formatting?

What am I supposed to do to clear out the border formatting of a selection of cells in Numbers for iPad? Am I taking steps in the wrong order? Am I missing steps? How do I clear cell border formatting the right way?

Thank you

In general:

First select the cells.

Then perform the action.

So,

  1. Select cells
  2. Tap 'paintbrush' format icon
  3. Tap 'Cell'
  4. Tap 'Cell Border'
  5. Make your choices.

If your choice is to remove lines entirely then tap 'Line Type' followed by 'None'.
