Pixelmator Pro canvas black, not rendering on macOS
To the Pixelmator Support Team,
I am reaching out regarding a persistent rendering issue in Pixelmator Pro that makes the app unusable.
Even though I have a new active subscription and the application seems to load documents correctly, the main canvas area remains completely black. I can see the layer thumbnails and their names in the Layers sidebar (e.g., "Bottle Highlights", "Background Gradient"), but no image data is being rendered in the workspace. This occurs with both built-in templates and newly created sRGB documents.
My Environment:
- OS: macOS Tahoe 26.3.1
- App: Pixelmator Pro (latest version from App Store)
Steps I have already taken to troubleshoot:
- System Update: Updated to macOS 26.3.1.
- Clean Reinstall: Deleted the app and removed all related files from ~/Library/Containers.
- Preferences Reset: Reset app defaults via Terminal and cleared ~/Library/Caches.
- Canvas Settings: Checked that "Soft Proofing" is off and tried resetting transparency settings in General Preferences.
- New Documents: Created new files with different color profiles (sRGB, Display P3), but the canvas remains black in all cases.
Since the layers are clearly active and visible in the sidebar, this seems to be a deep-seated GPU/Metal rendering conflict with the latest macOS version.
Could you please provide guidance on how to resolve this or let me know if this is a known bug being addressed in an upcoming patch?
Best regards,
Michal Lopata
