Is Find My iPhone location accurate with a dead battery?

I lost my phone today, and the battery is dead so it can't play a sound. I have find my phone enabled, and the location is still showing as here, now, even though the battery is dead. The location keeps updating periodically, and it isn't showing it getting out of date, such as the location being from 10 mins ago.

Is this location still accurate? I can't find my phone currently but knowing it is in the immediate vicinity would make it a lot easier to search for it.

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 26

The battery is not really completely dead if you are getting current location information. The location is accurate until you see a message about a "Last Known Location", which will appear about a week after the phone is not able to send any more location signal information. At that point, the battery will be really close to dead.

After that, the message will change to "Offline" and no location information will appear.

Once the battery is completely drained, there is no way to update the location – so any Find My location that you see will, by definition, be stale until such time as the phone has power again.

According to this Support article, it sounds like Find My might show

  • An old Find My location for as long as 24 hours after the device sent it
  • An old Find My network location for as long as 7 days after another Apple device relayed it
