Microsoft Excel won't open on MacBook Pro after an update

Microsoft 365 Excel documents will not open after routine overnight update to tahoe 26.3.1 last week. Word etc continue to work perfectly.

Specifically, Finder app displays "The application "Microsoft Excel" can't be opened".

I am running 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max 64 gig with 4TB memory.

Thoughts please ??

I would look to update the third party software...(?)
