How to create a DVD IMG now that compressor no longer has that capability?

Hello all! Surly I'm not the only one with this dilemma? Believe it or not, much to my chagrin, a lot of my clients still want DVD's of their wedding videos that I edit. Most dance recital companies want bulk DVD's to sell to parents. Compressor hasn't handled the process of IMG creation with a DVD menu since Compressor 4.6 (2-3 years now?). That's okay, because I kept Compressor 4.6 on all my machines as a standalone app on my desktop to easily create DVD IMG's. I know the menu options were rudimentary with Compressor, but it worked for me.

Anyway... with Tahoe 26.3.1, Compressor 4.6 no longer works. Obsolete! I'm left scrambling to find a program that can still create IMG's with a DVD menu so I can burn said IMG's to disk using my Primera Bravo (which is also ancient... but still chugging along).

I'm doing my best to ween my clients off DVD's, but there's a few that insists on having them.

What programs are folks using on MAC that can create DVD IMG files with a custom DVD menu?

I am afraid that the best way to support these old tech is to keep an older mac around, running a compatible version. As OS versions and new macs come along, the options for things like producing DVD are dwindling rapidly.

In the meantime, you may want to try "Burn", a free application; or the everlasting Roxio Toast.

Get Roxio Toast Titanium, it'll take care of things for you. Yeah, so many folks still using DVDs, but Apple has denied us access.

Funny... Roxio Toast is something I haven't heard in over 20 years. It was a program that I used before Apple came along with iDVD and Compressor. Now, here I am, a quarter century later, delving back into it! A full circle moment. Lol. Gonna check it out now.

As much as I despise DVD's, a lot of people... and I mean a lot... still use and prefer them over digital files. For my clients, it's the only way for them to make a profit from selling things like dance recital performances. They're happy to get the digital file, but as soon as you share it, it can be shared with everyone else. One parent could buy a USB (or download the digital version), and then just upload and share the file with a multitude of other parents. So I get where they're coming from and the need for DVD's still.

It just didn't make sense for Apple to stop offering the very basic DVD support in Compressor. A lot of people still need it and it surly wouldn't have cost them much to maintain that functionality? I could be wrong.

Have you hinted the customers that video-DVD resolution is quite poor (NTSC 640x480, PAL 720x576) so distributing original resolution .mp4 movies via USB thumb drives should be much better. But on the other hand, that would make sharing with everyone else even easier.

20 years ago I carefully exported movies via iDVD. But those DVDs are now collecting dust upstairs after I exported archived iMovie 1-6 PAL .dv files as 50 fps bob-deinterlaced and square pixel scaled 768x576 .mp4 movies.

I have mentioned the resolution issues. But sharing is easier with USB's. That, and USB's cost WAY more to produce, both in material cost and manpower. I can press one button and rip off 100 DVD's at a time. Come back a few hours later and they're all done and ready for delivery. USB's have to be done one at a time. Not fun. Lol.

Great idea... thanks for the info! I wonder if it's possible to also bulk or batch format a bunch of drives at the same time as well in Disk Utility? General searches about the topic online are vague.

Whatever happens to be sitting on the desk at the time, that's what gets used. If you want to get picky (and I'm not), pay attention to throughput specs. But any hub will do. I have two pretty cheap ones I use for doing this. Both have held up for a couple of years now.

I can copy to multiple flash drives in a fraction of the time one DVD burns. I do it at least once a month. I have a USB hub specifically for this purpose.
