Unable to install Spotify. M1 MacBook

I can't install Spotify on my m1 MacBook Pro. When I download it from chrome I get a zip file I can't seem to unzip, and when I download it from safari I get an app file that when I click on it says it can't be opened and prompts me to put it in the bin. Anyone have a clue how I can download Spotify on this laptop?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 26.3

A workaround should be to then in Security & Privacy grant permission for the installer.

But that is a weird error with a big app like Spotify unless their site happens to have a temporary glitch. Make sure you download it straight from the developer.

And don't use any 3rd party virus apps or "cleaners" that might produce unexpected errors.

Call Spotify customer support about their product. macOS 26 has the native ability to unzip .zip files by simply double clicking on them. I do it all the time with my wife’s embroidery patterns.

If you can’t unzip .zip files then something in your installation is blocking it. Many Mac users install Spotify without issue. This is not an Apple macOS problem.

By the way where, exactly, are you downloading the Spotify app from? As a test I just downloaded the Spotify app from Spotify’s website, double clocked the .zip file, it unzipped and there was the Spotify install app.

I'm having the exact same issue on my new MacBook Neo, not sure if the current build of Spotify on the site is just broken? All of my other applications installed no problem.

No, it’s not broken. I downloaded it and installed it this morning without issue on my Mac. And your Neo runs a full and complete version of macOS 26 with no restrictions on software, no different than any other Mac.

I'm having the same problem. Last year I downloaded Spotify without problem (Macbook Air M1), but yesterday I restored my PC clean to default and installed everything again, but only "Install Spotify.app" doesn't work at all. Either if I download it in Safari it says it cannot be opened and I should trash it; and if I download it on any other browser it downloads a damaged zip that can't be extracted.

Omg I found a way to download it. I asked ChatGPT for help and it told me to put the next lines on Terminal (maybe I trusted ChatGPT too much but it finally worked).

curl -L https://download.scdn.co/SpotifyInstaller.zip -o Sphttps://download.scdn.co/SpotifyInstaller.zip

and after downloading:

unzip SpotifyInstaller.zip

Then the Install Spotify.app finally worked.

What is failing then? Is it Safari? When I downloaded in the official website it didn't work, be it Safari, Chrome or Edge.
