Scribble on iPad not converting handwriting to text in Notes

Issue:

Scribble stopped working on my iPad. The cursor appeared in the wrong shape/color, handwriting would not convert to text, and Notes kept switching into drawing mode instead of Scribble mode.

Symptoms:

• Cursor visible but wrong style

• Cursor blinking but Scribble not activating

• Scribble test in Settings not working

• Apple Pencil triggered drawing tools instead of text input

• Handwriting stayed as drawing and did not convert

Working Solution:

1. Open Notes

2. Tap the page with a finger to activate the text field

3. Begin writing with Apple Pencil (drawing toolbar appears)

4. Select the right‑side tool on the toolbar: Pencil with the “A” (Scribble tool)

5. Scribble immediately begins converting handwriting to text again

Explanation:

Notes can remain stuck in drawing mode even when the text field is active. Selecting the Pencil‑A Scribble tool forces Notes to switch into handwriting‑to‑text mode, restoring Scribble functionality.
