where is normal.dotm in Word for Mac 16?
I want to modify the normal template in Word for Mac 16.92. Every Google searche indicate it is found under Library/ Group Containers. All searches in the hidden Library folder on my Mac do not return anything called Group Containers, nor do searches for normal.dotm, normal.dotx or any file labeled normal

It may be here:
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/
The tilde ~ means your user account.
You don't directly modify the .dotm file.
Open Word and then a new blank document. Make any changes you want in the settings, such as margins, fonts, spacing, etc. Click the Defaults button on any palette that has one. Contrary to what you may think, it doesn't mean revert to the defaults, it means save as the defaults. Your changes will be saved to the Normal.dotm file. All new documents will use the new settings.
Thank you. I've found the Normal.dotm file, but after I have made the edits to the template, I am unable to save it as Normal.dotm. The file name is greyed out, and there is no option to save it as an .dotm file, only as a dotx file.
In agreement with Kurt Lang, notice that the Word File menu gives both the opportunity to create templates, using "Save as Template":
and to create a new document from a template, "New from Template", where I see something like this:
I can't say I use these much, the newest is from 2015 and three or four Macs ago, but the procedure seems to have become much easier. One used to have to search "See more templates" to find the old stuff. Hoping it works for you.

Yes, it's odd. And while I did use Office for many years, details are getting fuzzy as I switched a few years ago to SoftMaker Office.
When opening Word, it should automatically load Normal.dotm from that Templates folder.
Just checked on three Macs, two running Tahoe, one Ventura. In each case the templates are in
~Username/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Templates
I see that a search for the Group Containers folder shows nothing, it only becomes visible when you open the user Library, as here:
You can also open the user Library by using Finder, Go, Go to folder, ~Username/Library [putting your user name after the tilde].
