Apple ID Hacked and details changed

Someone in a different country has hacked my Apple ID and changed the telephone number against it, now I can’t login or start account recovery, Apple were very unhelpful stating nothing I can do, as I didn’t notice the email stating account recovery had been started on the account, and unless I know the number I can’t regain access.

Seems ludicrous that I’ve lost the account even though I called support within half hr of being notified of the number change, they won’t even block the account even though I’ve highlighted its fraud, help!!

If you are unable to use Account Recovery: https://support.apple.com/en-us/118574

It is likely irrevocably gone. As you were told.

There are folks hunting for accounts most everywhere with re-used passwords and with no two-factor authentication enabled, and they will search and find and thoroughly take over the matching accounts.

If that happened here, that is no longer your Apple Account, and there is unfortunately nothing you can do to regain access.

Why not? The current state of that account is indistinguishable from you trying to take over their account; the account of another.

Cancel payment cards associated with the account, gather up your original purchase receipts, and move to a new Apple Account.

Yes, this stinks large.

For folks following along, here is a tool which wills how where accounts have been compromised. If you find yourself listed — and if you are re-using passwords — yesterday was the best time to change your password and today is good. And a password manager and two-factor authentication is good, too.

Hello~ There is virtually nothing you can do at this point. As *MrHoffman* suggests “Cancel payment cards associated with the account, gather up your original purchase receipts, and move to a new Apple Account.” I suggest doing this sooner than later. Take care.
