MacBook Air Shift key activates Control shortcuts in Word

I'm working on my university's template on Word, and it has come CTRL + key shortcuts. However when i try to use shfit + key to get a capital letter it activates the shortcuts. Why does my shift acts as ctrl? I have checked my keyboard settings an all seem to be in order.

If the shortcuts affect everything system-wide, refer to Use macOS keyboard shortcuts - Apple Support. You can reset them to defaults if you so desire.
If the shortcuts are limited to Microsoft's product, research its documentation, help features, or contact Microsoft for assistance. Customize keyboard shortcuts - Microsoft Support may be applicable.
