iPod touch not recognized by MacBook for photo transfer

I have an old iPod touch with lots of photos and videos from my childhood. There doesn't seem to be any possible way that I've tried to transfer these photos onto my macbook, despite plugging it in and the device charging it's not coming up in finder.
