Tahoe 26.3.1 overheats Macbook Pro M1 and drains battery quickly

After the update to Tahoe 26.3.1, my Macbook Pro M1 (13", 2020) has been running hot for no reason. The fan usage has been quadrupled since the update. The battery is also draining in almost half of time under similar load and usage before the update.

The current battery health is at 84% which has also fallen 3-5% since the update.

I have monitored the CPU, Memory usage through the Activity Monitor, and there is nothing out of ordinary or any unknown apps running in the background.

Is there an update/fix on the way for this?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 26.3

Apple released macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 on March 4, 2026.

You have shut down and restarted more than once, 26.3.1 (?) given some time for Spotlight to re-index...

What is it showing in your Activity Monitor for the highest CPU usage when the fans are ramped up...?

—unplug all non-essential peripherals when testing

—Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus all known to cause issues on the macOS

To trouble shoot further you can:

—A SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262 will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

This test will tell you if third party interference; most extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/set-up-other-users-on-your-mac-mtusr001/mac

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.
