If someone stole it and kept it off (or removed the SIM), it won’t update its position until it’s turned back on and connected to a network. --> Do's and Don'ts for lost iPhones - Switch… - Apple Community

Steps You Can Take

  1. Mark as Lost in Find My (Devices Section)
    1. Open Find My on your device.
    2. Select your father’s iPhone → Mark As Lost.
    3. This locks the phone remotely and displays a custom message with your contact info if someone powers it on.
  2. Enable Notifications (Devices Section)
    1. In Find My, turn on Notify When Found. You’ll get an alert as soon as the phone reconnects to the internet.
  3. Check iCloud
    1. Log in to https://www.icloud.com/ • Find iPhone to confirm the same status.
  4. Secure Accounts
    1. Change Apple ID password (to prevent misuse).
    2. Remove the device from trusted devices if you suspect theft.
    3. Update passwords for sensitive apps (banking, email)
  5. Report Theft
    1. File a police report with the phone’s IMEI number (found on the box or in iCloud under device info).
    2. Inform your mobile carrier—they can block the SIM and flag the IMEI.

Switched Off? Still Traceable: Even if the iPhone is switched off, it is findable; see the picture below.

iPhone is findable even when powered off. (iOS 15 and above)

Did you enable Find My network? See the pic below

If yes, read below how it may get located.

The Find My network is an encrypted, anonymous network of hundreds of millions of Apple devices that can help you locate your device.

From the above, I infer that when another device comes in close proximity to your powered-off device the GPS/Bluetooth from both devices will form a network and your device's location info will be displayed to you on your device only. As long as both devices are/have...

  • Find My Network is enabled
  • iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, and above
  • With iOS 15 and above versions

Set up Find My on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac

"No Device Found" is almost always an indication that Find My was not enabled on the phone.....before....it was lost. No way to locate the phone in that case.....other than physically looking for it......no matter what condition the battery might be in.

If Find My was enabled on the phone....before it was lost....even if the battery has run down.....the message would normally be "Offline".

Sorry, but the phone appears to be gone.
