Macs only support running one display off plain USB-C docks or adapters. So I suspect that all three adapters that kaz-k mentioned rely on second-class workarounds. For instance, the manufacturer's description of the Plugable USBC-6950M clearly indicates that DisplayLink drivers are required.

To run two displays from a single Mac host port in a first-class, hardware-accelerated way, you need (a) a Mac that supports two external monitors, which the M5 MacBook Air does; and (b) a genuine Thunderbolt dock hub, or dual-display adapter.

If one was only looking for a display adapter, that might be something like

At $99.99 USD, the SonnetTech adapter isn't much more expensive than the $95.95 USD Plugable USBC-6950M which relies on lesser technology.

Hi,

Following adapters could be available for your requirement.

  • Plugable USB-C to Dual 4K HDMI Adapter (USBC-6950M): Highly recommended for M-series Macs to manage dual 4K 60Hz displays.
  • WAVLINK USB-C Dual HDMI Adapter (4K@60Hz): A well-regarded option for extending desktop across two monitors on M-series MacBooks.
  • ACASIS USB C to Dual HDMI DisplayLink Adapter: Offers dual 4K 60Hz, 3 USB-A ports, and power delivery, making it a good "single adapter" solution for accessories as well.
