Which new iPhone model is best for general use and value?

Looking to trade up from 11 to a new iPhone. Recommendations for best option, 15, 16 or 17 model.

I am not a gamer, mainly use it for texts, phone calls and pictures. Which is value for money?

iPhone 11, iOS 26

Buy the latest one you can afford. It will support updates for the longest time. As you seem to be someone who holds on to their phones for a long time, I would think that's important.

Be very, very careful if you decide to buy a used phone from anyone other than Apple.

But honestly, all of them will be a big improvement over an iPhone 11, and I'm sure you'll be happy.

Texts and phone calls are easy for any phone to handle. So the questions you want to ask yourself may revolve around what types of camera features you want, and how much device storage you need.

If I am not mistaken, the iPhone 16e, 17e, and Aur lack wide-angle (0.5x) cameras, and have USB-C ports that lack support for DisplayPort output. The Pro and Pro Max models have the most elaborate cameras, but also are the most expensive.

A regular 16 or 17 with enough storage might be a good choice if you want the wide-angle camera option, but don’t need to have the absolute highest-end device. I have a much older iPhone 12 mini that, like the plain 16 and 17, has two rear cameras, and it has served me fairly well for taking pictures.

Note that while Apple no longer sells any new 15-series phones, or any new 16-series phones other than the regular model, there may be 15- and 16-series phones in Apple’s online Certified Refurbished Store.

Apple Certified Refurbished phones come with new batteries, new outer shells, and a 1-year warranty.

I would be wary of buying a used or “refurbished” iPhone anywhere else.
