5G iPod video battery is dead and won't hold a charge

Need a new legit battery for my 20 year old 5G iPod video. Original battery is super dead and completely discharges in a matter of days when not in use. Now it can't even hold a reserve charge, and shuts down when I attempt to play a song.

is the battery bloated and pushing against the screen? If that is the case I recommend you get rid of it ASAP and do NOT try to replace the battery,it’s going to be super hard and you even have a Chance on ripping the battery

Don't know, I have yet to remove the back cover.

The screen looks fine, although if I look at it at the right angle, I do see a very faint horizontal black mark near the top-center of the screen. I can't confirm if this is pressure caused by a bloating battery.

I can replace the battery myself, seeing that the 5G iPod Video isn't a complicated fragile puzzle to disassemble. I just need a battery that isn't made by some shady no-name Chinese manufacturer that may potentially ignite and cause a fire.

You're going to be mostly on your own with that. Apple doesn't sell batteries. Some internet research should probably get you the names of some reputable battery companies.

FYI, China produces about 70% of this type of battery. And, most of the battery manufacturers are probably not going to have names you're familiar with. According to the interwebs, one of Apple's major suppliers is a company called Amperex Technology Limited, a name that means nothing to me. They also get batteries from Samsung and LG. Whether you as a retail consumer can buy from those companies is a question I can't answer.

If it wasn't visibly pressing the screen off, you're fine.
I think it was, just slightly. There was a very faint stress mark when looking at the screen at the right angle.

Be very careful with a battery that has expanded. If you puncture the container that contains the battery it will almost certainly catch fire.

And “Li-Po” is shorthand for Lithium Ion Polymer electrolyte, is a safer design.

Actually,Li-Po is a safer design! But remember you will have to de solder the battery

It's already disconnected. The ribbon cable on the battery plugs into the main board.

I also have an iPod Nano 5G that needs a new battery as well. Unfortunately that one is out of my league when it comes to self repair. If I do manage to dissemble it without damaging anything, I'm not taking a solder iron to the battery terminals. Too much of a risk accidentally bridging the solder terminals together.

So should I go ahead with the iFixit battery then?
