QuickTime has no audio in Sequoia 15.7.4

iMac Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019, on Sequoia 15.7.4

Quicktime will play videos but not the audio on them. I have tried many items with the same result. VLC will play the videos normally, that is, with audio

How can I fix this?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 15.7

What audio codec those movies have? QuickTime Player does not support all audio codecs -- for example Opus audio was added in Sonoma so those movies are silent in Monterey. You can check those codec details via 3rd party apps like Media Info or Invisor.

Thank you, Matti, for the suggestion. This problem happened abruptly a few days ago. Before that, QuickTime Player played all the vids flawlessly.

Again, VLC plays the videos with their audio.

I recently updated to Sequoia 15.7.4, but that seems an unlikely cause. I suspect I may have accidentally changed some setting, but I have looked through the QuickTime and system settings and I can't find any wrong setting.

Again, thanks
