iPhones purchased directly from Apple....either from the Apple Store or online.....are eligible for a full refund within 14 days.
If you purchased from a different store......their rules might be different.....check the store to clarify on their policies.

Just go for a Case:
This might be inapplicable to the process of the return, but if you just can't return it, just use a hard case, and it would keep it more secure particularly one that meets your satisfaction. Why not? From Apple: Cases & Protection - Apple
How far past 14 days is it? Did you purchase Apple Care+? Did you purchase from an Apple Store?
