Create new Numbers documents in separate windows?

In Numbers, how do I create a second, third, etc. document as a new file in another window instead of creating a doc in a new tab?

MacBook Neo 13″, macOS 26.3

Are you running in Full Screen Mode?

In Full Screen mode you do get one 'window' that covers the entire screen, and different documents are displayed as tabs.

If you want separate windows, you need to not use Full Screen mode.

Try View -> Exit Full Screen to see if that gives you what you want.

I'm familiar with single files (old habits).

Numbers still works with single files (documents), whether or not you are in full screen mode and whether or not you want tabs to appear across the top.

Are you sure you are going to the correct part of the Window menu? The list of open documents (each its own file) is displayed at the bottom of that menu.

To see a list of sheets within the same document you need to click a sheet name (tab) within Numbers and view the list in the dropdown menu that appears.

No. I'm not using Full Screen Mode. When I go pull the Window menu down, I see Untitled 1, Untitled 2, Untitled 3. But they only bring up the different sheets in the one document.

Prior, when I selected File:New, after I choose a template, all it does is put in a sheet in a new tab in the same document.

To give you a better idea of what I'm trying to accomplish: In one document I have 2026 with tabs Jan, Feb, March, etc. In another document in the same Numbers session, I have 2025, with Jan, Feb, Mar, etc.

SGIII, if I create a table in a sheet, tapping the sheet tab brings up a list of tables on that sheet. I'm not seeing a list of sheets.

Ah, yes, you are correct. I wrote too hastily, The sheet names display horizontally in tabs. The table names display vertically from a sheet name tab. Document names (each representing a separate file) display vertically in the Window menu.

BTW, you mention "tapping." Are you using Numbers on an iPad? (Profile indicates macOS). I'm less familiar with the evolving interface of iPadOS.
