On macOS Tahoe, there isn’t a system-wide “Game Overlay” key built into macOS itself.
Apple’s Game Mode runs automatically in supported games, but it doesn’t have a universal overlay shortcut like Windows’ Xbox Game Bar.
What you’re probably looking for depends on the app:

This is the closest thing I can find that corresponds to your question:
⎋ is escape
Refer to the Official Apple Support Documentation visa vie Game Mode

Specific sections
Requirements for using Game Mode
To use Game Mode, you need:
Turn Game Mode on or off
When your game enters full screen as described above, Game Mode automatically turns on for that game. Exiting full screen or quitting the game automatically turns Game Mode off. You can also use the steps below to turn Game Mode off or on while your game is still in full screen.

A screenshot would have helped.
But did you see Ronda Wilson's post just before yours? Is it not Escape?

So, the keystroke would be press and hold the Command key and tap the Escape (ESC) key. What happens?
Owl-53,
I'm sorry you misunderstood. There is a key combination of two keys (for example Command and the C key for Copy). Game overlay uses a combination of two keys. One is the Command key. It's that second key that I'm trying to figure out--the circle with an arrow.
Nope. These posts still misunderstand my question. I don't know how I can make my question any simpler.
Let me try again.
When you open a game, on the top of the screen an alert comes on that says something like 'Game Overlay' and in the same sentence it shows the command key and another icon that looks like a circle with an arrow in the upper left of the circle.
This sounds like Jeopardy. You made a statement, not a question. So it must be my turn at the buzzer. What is a Notification?
Notifications are the on screen messages you see for a 5 or 6 seconds and then disappear.
The Original question was " What key is it that is for Game Overlay? "
And Now the Goal Posts have been moved to " When you open a game, on the top of the screen an alert comes on that says something like 'Game Overlay' and in the same sentence it shows the command key and another icon that looks like a circle with an arrow in the upper left of the circle."
So the question to the user is " Which Is It ? "

Thanks, Ronda. Now I can understand the key combination assignments listed in Settings\Keyboard\Keyboard Shortcuts
Tom Gewecke, I caught Ronda's response. Mystery solved.
Ronda, thanks! Mystery solved!
