Turn OFF "Require attention for Face ID" setting on iPhone 17

My iPhone 17 software update just ran. Before the update I disabled Face ID in favor of a passcode. I want to dismiss the prompt PERMANENTLY. How do I turn off the "Require attention for Face ID" option? I DO NOT WANT FACE ID!!!!!

Settings>Accessibility>Face ID & Attention>Require Attention for Face ID>Off

However, if you have Face ID turned off, the status of that feature is irrelevant.

The "Require Attention for Face ID" control is present, but not changeable. I cannot turn it off; thus my question. As far as I can tell, unless I enable Face ID (which I do NOT want to do), there's no way to change the setting that controls the "Set up Face ID" nag-o-gram. I want it OFF; NOT enabled and NOT constantly nagging me TO enable it. Clear?

You can't change it unless you set up Face ID. But that's not the setting that controls the prompts to set up Face ID. There are no settings for that.

One thing you can try is to start the process of setting up Face ID, then don't finish it. Or, set it up and then turn it off again.
