1st gen Apple Pencil doesn’t connect to IPad

I purchased a 1st generation Apple Pencil on eBay for my 9th generation iPad, and when i try to pair it, it takes a second to give me the pairing notification and then immediately disconnects. I've tried everything and the issue persists. Am I able to take it to an Apple Store and have it inspected or something of the sort or is there nothing i can do?
