Email - sudden disappearance (IPhone XR)

A couple of days ago I was checking my email (iCloud account) on my IPhone XR which runs IOS 18.7.6 and the entire contents of one of my folders suddenly disappeared and I cannot get it to reappear. If anyone has had this happen to them and can help with this I would be very grateful as I really need those documents back.
