You won't be able to install Instagram on your iPhone 7.

Why? Instagram requires an iPhone 8 or higher model. Apple is not involved with decisions made by Instagram.

Since you will be looking for a new phone, it would make sense to look at an iPhone 16 or iPhone 17 to insure that you will be able to run updates for the next 7-8 years.

Your iPhone needs to meed the minimum system requirements for your software and, apparently, it does not. iPhone 6 series is incomparable with iOS 17. So, either downgrade the software to a compatible version, or use a compatible iPhone.l, taking this as a good reason to upgrade.

• The OP asked about an iPhone 7 (which can update to iOS 15), not an iPhone 6 (which can update to iOS 12).
• Instagram currently requires iOS 16.3 or later – not iOS 17.
• Downgrading a compatible version of Instagram will not be an option unless the OP previously downloaded it, the previous version shows up in the Purchased tab of the App Store, and the developer has not made changes to the service that would render the old version of the app useless for accessing the service. That's a lot of "ifs".

The bottom line is still that the OP cannot install the current version of Instagram on their iPhone 7. They may or may not be able to access the Instagram service on the Web, using the old version of Safari (Safari 15) that runs on that iPhone.

While an iPhone 8, 8 Plus, or X could run current version of the Instagram app, purchasing one of those phones would be a bad idea because Meta could raise system requirements at any time – putting the OP right back into the same boat.

Let's make this simple, your iPhone 7's max update is iOS 15 and Instagram requires atleast iOS 16.3, that's because your iPhone 7 cannot handle iOS 16 and above, If Meta still supports older versions of instagram, you may install it and it may ask you if you want an older version of instagram (Should've downloaded it before the requirement = If downloaded then it should display as a cloud icon on the App Store if not installed), or still have had it downloaded before Meta enforced the iOS 16 requirement, Otherwise you can't.

Downgrade the Instagram software version.

That's exactly what I asked you and would like to know how that can be done. Instagram doesn't support anything lower than iOS 17, so how would someone do what you suggested? I actually looked this up after you posted (something you probably should have done) and found exactly what I expected to find, which is Instagram cannot be rolled down to be compatible with a lower iOS version than iOS 17.

Huh? We know dowgrading iOS is not supported, so I have to assume you mean downgrade Instagram to a compatible version, which I've never heard is supported either. Can you explain?
