How to resolve stalled email migration from IMAP to POP3 on macOS Tahoe 26.3.1?

Migrating from IMAP to POP3 account. I have about 3000 messages on the web server, but just over half have moved across to the POP3 account; it has now stalled. I am on a Mac Studio operating Tahoe 26.3.1 and using Mac's Mail. Would anyone know if this is likely to be a Mac issue or the host of the emails, and any remedies?

My client has set me up with my own email but with the work I do I keep filling the mailbox. The email was set up as an IMAP email. If I delete emails using the IMAP they are gone. If I move to a POP3, which is what I'm trying to do (at their suggestion) they are stored on my computer, so I can delete from the web account and we still have all the emails and I dont fill the mailbox. In summary I want to empty the mailbox but not lose the emails.

To store Apple Mail emails locally on a Mac, create a new mailbox under the "On My Mac" section in the sidebar and move or drag/drop emails into it. This removes them from the server (if moved) and saves them only to your local computer, freeing up server space.

The first question that comes to mind is why would you migrate to an old email protocol that several email providers are no longer supporting? Secondly, POP email is not normally stored on the email server it is downloaded to your client machine. So maybe your email provider's POP server has limited storage and in your specific case has run out of space.

Thanks for your comments. I am using my clients account as I'm a consultant to them. They have given me a set amount of storage and I keep using it all. So I want to transfer over to the POP3 and store locally and then I wont hit the mail box limit. If there is another way of doing it I am all ears.

It is difficult to understand what you are saying. Are you saying your client has given you access to their email account and you want to download their email to your computer? If so, just log into their IMAP account and all their email will be downloaded to your computer, and it will remain available on the email server to your client as well. If you access their email account using POP, all their emails will be downloaded to your computer and your client will not have access to those emails.

Please explain in more detail exactly what it is you are trying to accomplish.
