iPhone 17 max pro OVERHEATS

I purchased the 17 Pro Max in February 2026.

I had to have it replaced on March 18, 2026, because the phone was constantly overheating.

I am experiencing the same issue with the replacement phone.

I am currently in my home, the air conditioning is running, and it's a very comfortable environment.

Phone is HOT, just checking Facebook messages (about 2 minutes)

I'm wondering if this is a problem with the device manufacturing.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Honestly, I will have to pay more attention if it's only with FB.

Oh, and I do have the most recent IOS update.

If the phone isn't displaying a graphic of a thermometer with a warning the phone can't be used until it cools down, the phone is NOT overheating. iPhone has sophisticated technology built into every iPhone to ensure the temperature does not exceed normal operational levels. That doesn't mean it can't get warm. If you are streaming music, videos, etc., the battery is working very hard to do that. And when a battery works hard, it generates heat, in a normal process called Thermodynamic Exchange.

Keep an eye on when the phone gets warmer than you might expect and what you are doing at that time. Facebook, actually ALL Meta Apps are notorious for being battery intensive. But Apple doesn't own Meta Apps.

Also whether you're using cellular data or Wifi contributes to how hard the battery has to work. The battery will not work as hard if your phone is connected to a strong stable Wifi network. It will work much harder using Cellular Data.

Finally, if you have a VPN installed on your phone, I'd recommend you get rid of it, unless you are required to have one by a school or employer. VPNs are well known for causing all sorts of issues on iPhone, they aren't needed or recommended.

Yeah I’ve seen a few people mention this, so it might not just be your device. New phones can run hot if stuff’s going on in the background like app refresh, location tracking, or a dodgy update. Facebook can be pretty heavy too.

I’d check battery settings to see what’s using the most power, turn off background app refresh for apps you don’t need, and make sure iOS is up to date. Also try restarting it or setting it up as new if it keeps happening. If it’s still getting hot just doing basic stuff, I’d probably push Apple again.

Are you getting the warning message that the phone is overheating and will shut down? Can you still hold the phone? Is the problem only with FB? If so, what happens if you delete the app?

Hi. I'm not very tech-savvy: I see that FB is using 13%, Phone 9%, Pandora 8%, Messages 7%, and Camera 3%. The aforementioned apps have an alert in orange font with a "!" next to it.

I listen to pandora most of the day. FB, I mostly use it on my desktop, so not sure why that % is so high.

Today's battery usage at dinner time is 57% (also in orange)

Screen Active 7hr 50m. Screen Idle 4h 1 m

Other battery usage:

Always on display 2%

Home & Lock screen 2%

I would appreciate any additional suggestions you may have.

Thanks in advance.
