One would not.

Anybody requesting a gift card to do something or in exchange for something is looking to scam you. Full Stop.

No established financial institution or company would ever request Apple Gift cards for anything whatsoever.

So somebody is telling you they need to buy an Apple Gift Card to get a QR code to get access to their bank account?

As stated in the earlier reply, that would mean they’re getting scammed.

I’d expect the QR code would connect to a fake “bank” login webpage too, which would allow the scammers to drain their bank account.

If you know and have met this person, they may need some help with their finances.

If you don’t know and have not met the caller, it’s a scam.

Banks do not require and do not accept Apple Gift Cards.

Maybe this is a ”pig butchering scam”, but which scam depends on the details.

Block the gift-card-requesting contact, and move on.

You can report phishing at these links and most importantly your local law enforcement.

Thank you for your reply. I wanted to know because a person has been asking me to get them a 300 Apple gift card so they can get a QR code to access their bank account. I asked why. I told them that they didn’t need a QR code to access their bank account. I told them that I would not get them a Apple gift card.

That person needs some financial advice, and maybe needs formal legal oversight of their finances.
